In addition to being a Founder and Managing Partner of Goodwin Executive Search, Bill Goodwin is an avid collector and history buff. For years, he sought a platform to catalog his personal and family collection of valuables, and share stories between generations. Every product out there to manage valuables was really just about either inventorying or selling items–none focused on delivering an amazing and joyous user experience. He was on the lookout for something better.

 

All the while, Amy Wolpert and many of her Gen X/Older Millennial friends were concerned about their aging Baby Boomer parents–the idea of taking care of a parent AND taking care of their things was overwhelming. As an estate executor, she wanted to be ready. As an avid estate sale shopper, she wondered if family members would be selling so much if they knew more about their items. Maybe there was a more efficient way to distribute valuable items (that didn’t include post-it notes) and to reduce fear of family friction.

 

After writing The Two But Rule: Turn Negative Thinking Into Positive Solutions book, John Wolpert was looking for a new business opportunity. A neighbor introduced him to longtime friend and executive recruiter Bill Goodwin. John and Bill had instant connection and enjoyed meeting occasionally over a cup of coffee. John was also looking for a new challenge. His wife Amy asked him to consider making an app. With the popularity of thrifting, younger generations starting to embrace the best of brown furniture and reimagining the less desirable, and people tiring of fast furniture, why not?

 

Not knowing Bill’s passion for collecting, John showed the app to Bill, who couldn’t believe his eyes. John introduced Bill to Amy, and together all three formed a team to bring Valuable.app to market.
